JMF SPONSORS ROBERT A. ALDRICH CONFERENCE IN SEATTLE

Dr. Robert A. Aldrich discovered the Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome in the early 1950's. He was a prominent pediatrician who served at the NIH as well as in the Department of Pediatrics at the University Of Washington. Dr. Aldrich died in 1998. To honor him and to foster education in the field of pediatrics, where his interest was, the JMF sponsored a one day Aldrich Day Symposium which was held at The Seattle Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center. Dr. Duane Alexander, Director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) presented a talk describing the work of Dr. Aldrich at the NIH. Additional speakers on primary immunodeficiency included Dr. Ralph J. Wedgwood, Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at Seattle, Dr. Luigi Notarangelo of Brescia Italy, Dr. Hans Ochs of the University of Washington, Dr. Jennifer N. Puck of the National Center for Human Genome Research at the NIH, Dr. F. Bruder Stapelton, Pediatrician-In-Chief at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle and Christopher B. Wilson, Professor and Chair, Department of Immunology at the University of Washington.

Topics included Dr. Aldrich's accomplishments put in perspective, T-Cell Maturation, the Wiscott-Aldrich Syndrome, X-Linked SCID and X-Linked Hyper IgM Syndrome. The JMF is currently planning similar educational events for the future.
